Huetar
Las Tumbas

The Huetar tribe has a population of around 2,600 individuals residing in the pristine mountains of north-central Costa Rica.
Esmeralda is one of the few community members preserving the tradition of Huetar pottery, textiles, and musical instruments, and even offers classes to those with interest.
She has learned the Huetar crafting from both her mother and father. In her tribe basket weaving was traditionally done only by the women and the pottery only by men, but her parents taught her both.
