La Escala

 La Escala, translated to English to be "measurement tool," specializes in handcrafting a special form of pottery from Oaxaca, Mexico. 

Pedro lives in the hub of the region that makes black pottery, or barro negro as it is called locally. They do not use the standard pottery wheels to make their items. Instead they form a special local clay into molds. Once the clay hardens a bit, they remove the form and handcarve intricate designs into the piece. The black is not a glaze or paint, but rather the coloration into the clay when it is cured in wood-fired kilns.

He makes a variety of coffee mugs, cups, dishes, and pitchers that are all handmade from locally sourced materials.
